Bottom: Got my grips in, not the awesome that I envisioned but not bad either. They feel awesome , its just the color is a little off. Good enough for my use though though.

Its amazing that this beautiful casting was hiding underneath all those fins. It was not easy to dig it out but it was worth it, adds a real knuckle head feel to it.

With the motor coming out so nice, its making me question the street tracker decision.

Made the heat shield last night

First I whittled out the mandrel from a chunk of maple that mini b gave me. Just eye-balled the general shape and sculpted it till it looked right . Next I grabbed a chunk of 1.5mm aluminum and started hammering it around the mandrel. After a good amount of sweat and a little sand and polish I came up with this . Really fills in the area where the pipe looked to small.

I decided to paint the header black . I did want to brush finish it but I used a couple mystery metal bends in it so it wouldn't color right when it gets hot. I'm happy with this and it will be sweet once it has the polished heat shield in place.

Rich of Magneto Industries stopped by last night for some quick mods to a upper triple clamp and I started up the Honda to show him the smokey smoke. After I had it running for a minute and I jammed on the throttle a bit and discussed the symptoms with Rich. He seems to think its just running super fat and the smoke is unburned fuel. I have to agree that it is running eye watering rich and the decell puff of smoke could be the turbo sucking juice out of the idle port that is on the vacuum side of the throttle plate.
The saga continues.

I got it fired up over the weekend and it looks like the #1 cylinder is a bit oily. It's to soon to say if it need to come out , there are a few issues at play. In spite of the smoke it seams to run pretty good. I will definitely need to put the larger jets in the carb but I was able to trim the low end in pretty quick. Mini b was there and he snuck some video on his giant phone. I will post that when he sends it to me.

Building the wiring harness for the CB750F Turbo bike. I like making wire harnesses, its very relaxing , well it is when you have a good schematic that is. Once you've done a few old CB's it is all real similar and I don't put turn signals on any of my builds .

Upper pic, Grinding all the fins off of the rocker cover shown below. Will give it that old school knuckle head look. Hard to believe that sexy shape was hiding in there under all those fins. Being that this is just the rocker cover I don't think it will effect the cooling dynamics of the motor at all. If we have problems we can always add a oil cooler.

Sooooo worth it if you ask me.

I know somebody makes these but they didn't have the flow relief valve in it like the automotive cooler adaptors have . So I bought a automotive one and made a adaptor plate for it. Came out pretty nice if you ask me.

You can see the cooler core mounted below the filter too. This means my oil system is 100% complete. ( unless I keep changing shit )..

From the top, I added the blackness to CB750 turbo. It doesn't contrast as well as I thought it would, I guess I will have to figure that out . This frame color is difficult to say the least.

Got the seat pan and sissy bar done for the Norton. Will make a good 2up pan but I'm pretty happy with it otherwise.

The pic on the bottom is his inspiration seat pan.

He wants to keep the weird sissy bar thing and its causing design issues.

Personally I would like to shorten the rear frame loop ( taking that sissy bar with it ) and the seat pan to match.
Norton guys are kinda funny about modding the bike but the way I see it is - the sissy bar welded on the sides of the frame isn't original either.

If you have some better design ideas , let me know. I'm open to all ideas.

A Little Head Please. Mini's Sprint

Mini's Sprint got some attention this weekend.

Messed with it for a couple of hours and couldn't get it to fire.

So just for kicks we took of the rocker cover to find about 10mm of lash on the intake and -1mm on the exhaust. It fired up yesterday, Needs some love all over now.

Oh and the fire was from a little gas spill that got mopped up and thrown in the fire pit, made a neat pic.

From time to time I get asked where I found the drilled rotors for my bikes.

Here is the answer ; take your time and layout a nice even hole pattern. Make sure your holes intersect slightly so you don't get much striping. Use a drill press and take your time.

I get asked if I can or do drill these on the CNC and the answer is -No. It would take longer to set it up then it would to just do it and it is not near as difficult as it looks. If you want some layout tips , the best one is to find a rotor with the pattern and the size you want and just transfer punch it onto yours. With some layout dye, a steel rule and a set of dividers I can usually layout something in about a half hour. Don't be afraid to play around with it, as long as you are pretty balanced and don't remove more than 30 or 40% of your braking surface area you should be just fine.

Been doing some top secret work for Ford Racing out of my shop for the last couple of months now. I can finally make it a little public.

The intake manifold on this bad boy 5.0 is actually a 3D printed prototype that they are both testing and showing. I had the opportunity to do the paint and stripe work on it as well as 2 other variations of it and some wheels that I painted hot rod black just last week for the show in Florida.

Its neat to do business with big companies like this, takes a little while to get paid though.

Not by today's standards, but the dual front disc was not so common in 1975.
Even though this bike originally came with the duals , I didn't have them . Thanks to eBay I managed to scoop up a caliper , mount bracket and rotor on the cheap. I just need to drill the rotor to match and make some brake hoses and she be stoppin.

I*m not sure why but I have been putting off running the oil lines on this thing. Mostly because I couldn't decide what I wanted make the things out of I guess. I'm using -12 lightweight aircraft style fabric braided hose and fittings. I still have to figure out the oil cooler system and run the in and out lines to the turbo.

Progress is progress though..... right.

Cafe Half Fairing Half Mounted

I chose to mount the headlamp bucket brackets I made to the fairing with some fancy aircraft epoxy that I use for my fiberglass parts . This way the light is always perfect to the fairing.
I am also mounting the fairing without having any exposed bolt heads on the outside. It is one of those things that most people wont notice that I did it but would if I didn't.
I may modify those bars a bit as well, I'm not cool with the width.

Heavy coat of primer. I like to give the primer a week to dry so it doesn't shrink as much after the top coat it in place. I still have a butt load of block sanding to do.

I really need to redo my Harley. My problem is I want to keep my rear fender or a close variation of it because of my trailer hitch. I think ( all though I'm not sure) that the springer is longer than the ones shown above. I have a 21 on the front of it now but I'm really liking the the vintage tires on the 16's. I don't know what I want . I know I don't really want to take the time to start modding the frame and it makes it difficult to undo since I plan on keeping this bike forever.

Started stitching together the turbo header last night.
So far the design plan is 4 into 2 into 1 all in 1.5" tube .
This should keep the exhaust velocity high for minimal turbo lag.
We will see.

Ive been doing paint work over the weekend and don't have anything else going on in the shop. That leaves me a little time while paint is drying and such. So I fiddled around with the CB750 Turbo project a bit.

The intake is welded but I still have to add some instrument bosses and the BOV flange. Maybe clearance the waste gate actuator a bit.

Soon I will start on the exhaust, that will be fun.

Went to a high school machine shop auction and scored a new ( to me ) surface plate with cast iron base on wheels. It was sad to see a school eliminating the metal arts from their curriculum, they told me that they did not have a single kid sign up for metal shop in a couple of years. C'mon you little bastards this is Detroit, this is what your grandfather did, your great grandfather and possibly your great grandma during WWII. I guess the kids these days are to pretty and don't want to get their touch screen phones dirty. Sad .
