This stuff follows me everywhere
My boss is roping me in on a 1948 Harley hummer restoration. He wants it done right so he can compete with any vintage motorcycle show. I have to get the hoops chromed, replace the spokes with steel. I will have them cad plated too. The nipples are weird but original so I have to get those stripped and cad plated as well. Then I get the reassemble them. I was also elected to do the paint work on the tank, fenders and headlamp thing . The frame is in my office just so I can go over and mark areas of concern to have a fabby on the floor metal finish it.

Gabby's Guzzi Getting The Stripe On

I have the tank all stripped and ready for paint but I have been concentrating on the other tins first. The thicker double stripe seems to give it a racing stripe feel but with classic style. Everything is ready for clear coat then the scuff and buff begins.
Greg, show this to your girl and let me know what you think so far.

CB750 Turbo Seat and Gaby's Guzzi

I might be finished with the seat for the Honda, I'm not quite sure if its what I envisioned but it looks good. Just doesn't have that wow factor that I imagined.
Gabby's Guzzi , all metal finish and primed . I like to give the primer as long as possible to cure to minimize the shrinkage factor before I wet block it out.

Paint over filler over bondo over paint over filler and over

Body filler is not designed to exceed 3mm thickness!!!!!
It is not designed in most cases to be applied over paint.
in this case I had to dig through one layer of base clear, filler, base clear candy over silver, filler, some sort of matte black or sealer, more primer and a final layer of filler. The tank is noticeably lighter now . Note to the world: if you repaint your metal parts , take time to strip it . If you are just doing a color change and don't have a repair filler is not needed . The basic rule to me has always been don't add bondo unless you have to.

b's sporty , with the tins in place

It's pretty much just tires and wires at this point.
These pics don't do the paint justice at all , I will see if I can get someone a little more skilled with the shutter to nab some pics for the final posts.

Anybody got a junk one of these ?
Stole the pic from www.chalopy.blogspot.com .
When I was about 8 years old my grandpa picked up a 67 Honda 50 Cub in baskets and he and I built it together. Not only did it give me my first motorcycle project but it changed to coarse of my life. This was not a awesome restore but a nice scoot at the time. After we get her going we took it out to his hanger at Detroit Metro airport and taught me how to ride it. Soon after he told me it was mine. I miss my Grandpa dearly and wish he was here to see how it all turned out. Wow, that was hard to write! Anyways I would love to share a similar experience with my daughter and was hoping that someone had a 60s model of any displacement like the one above.

72 Sporty engine is 95% complete

6 crates of filthy basket case Sportster engine parts, 3 trips to the used Harley parts store and allot of polishing , balancing, measuring , torquing, painting, honing and head scratching over the past week. Since I took the photo I have added the Bendix carb, old school velocity stack
and some miscellaneous stuff. Basically just need to adjust the push rods and put on the generator. ( notice the chopped cam cover , looks like it came that way. )
