Last nights endeavors

Nothing special, just primer / sealer coat on the Iron Head parts.  I noticed a couple of dings that I didn't feel  ( I Must be slipping ) but that's ok I will spot them in and hose on the primer/surfacer today.
I was also working on the Taint splitter last night because I received my new chain that was on sale just to realize it was a 520 chain and to narrow .   So being that the chain was a non return item, I was just going to bite the bullet and get another 530 chain and get it over with.  To my surprise, when I was chain shopping I found that the 520 chain was not entirely wrong, it is used as weight savings thing.  Im not sure why that never crossed my mind.  So, for another 45 bucks I ordered the race 520 sprockets and I still get away cheaper than the right chain.  I also dropped a tooth in the back for just a little more speed at a little less rpm's 17 front 33 rear  over the stock 17 front and 34 rear.   I talked to Marcel about it briefly because he experimented with the sprockets so I only chose to drop a tooth, more than that might suck the fun out of it.

Gettin ready to paint Darin's Iron Headache

Poor guy has had some trouble getting his motor back together and since I was so busy with the XRTT project I put this stuff off to the side.   Now that's not the issue so I'm all over it now.  We stripped all the paint and I fixed a couple of cracks and filled a spare hole, Just have to putty it up and get it into primer.   Darin, thanks for dropping that off last night.

Bottom pic.    The Taint Splitter, I ordered a new clutch cable again and a new lever this time. While I'm at it, I'm taking off the front fender and making a fork brace similar to what I did on the XRTT.  I also found a nice O-ring chain on sale at Mikes XS so I'm going to swap that out when everything shows up.    I'm going to roll in the Honda after this and knock out the stuff I want to do to that.

I don't even want to comment on this right now....

Shiny ghost flames

Ghost flames are hard to capture in a photo when they are done right.  Looking at these pictures you can see how reflective the blackness can be.  Its nice to get my compressor going again.

Weekend stuff

Some paint and body stuff over the weekend .   I finished the bodywork and sealed up the benelli tank for the first Virago.  Did some mods to the back of the other Virago tank and painted it.   I'm not in love with the color but the customer was very specific so my guess is that it matches something that I'm not aware of yet and red always looks good on a otherwise blacked out bike.

The Last Cobra Jet Intake

This is the last of the naturally aspirated CJ manifolds that I have been painting for Ford Racing.   Thank you and I'm proud to have been a part of another legendary car.

Gaby's Gorgeous Guzzi Tank

Still needs graphics and clear. I like how this design blends cafe with classic.

Cobra Jet 2013 or FR500S

Been doing some top secret work for Ford Racing out of my shop for the last couple of months now. I can finally make it a little public.

The intake manifold on this bad boy 5.0 is actually a 3D printed prototype that they are both testing and showing. I had the opportunity to do the paint and stripe work on it as well as 2 other variations of it and some wheels that I painted hot rod black just last week for the show in Florida.

Its neat to do business with big companies like this, takes a little while to get paid though.

Jeff's Yamaha RD Cafe racer project

Please excuse the extremely trashed workspace around it.

Hot Rod black, an interesting gloss level to work with.

Shiny enough to see all the body lines and dirt, but dull enough to not see your reflection in it.

Got the shine on

All I need to do now is put a gas hole in it and slosh some tank liner through it and it will be ready to go. His goal is to get this bike done in time for the chilli cook off in Plymouth Michigan in about a week or so.

Cafe Fuel Tank and Paint Job

I don't usually put much of my paint work on here .

once in a while I get some pretty cool customers that want what ever I come up with.

For this one I kinda took some step by step pictures while I was working on it. Kinda neat to see it come together like this. Just need to clear coat it then scuff n buff.

BMW Fairing Repaired And Painted

Just thought I would post something on this as a after shot to the post below.

Pre Repair Referance Shot

BMW Bikini fairing that has been smashed , repaired half ass and smashed again.
Its always a good idea to take a quick shot like this as a note for how the stripe looks and a basic before the repair shot.

Paint over filler over bondo over paint over filler and over

Body filler is not designed to exceed 3mm thickness!!!!!
It is not designed in most cases to be applied over paint.
in this case I had to dig through one layer of base clear, filler, base clear candy over silver, filler, some sort of matte black or sealer, more primer and a final layer of filler. The tank is noticeably lighter now . Note to the world: if you repaint your metal parts , take time to strip it . If you are just doing a color change and don't have a repair filler is not needed . The basic rule to me has always been don't add bondo unless you have to.

Pin Stripin , with a old beugler tool

Pin Striping with an old bugler tool.
It's no secret, I'm not the most talented pinstripe artist out there so getting the super skinny lines requires either a professional or a bugler stripe tool. Don't get me wrong the bugler requires some skill of its own so I hate to consider it cheating . Thanks to my daughter for snapping the pics.
